Sweden's Nämdöskärgården Marine National Park, located in the Stockholm Archipelago, has been named a 2026 Global Vision Honouree by Travel & Leisure. This accolade highlights destinations that are leading the way in sustainable travel. Officially inaugurated in 2025, the park spans over 25,000 hectares and is part of one of Europe's most distinctive coastal landscapes, featuring more than 30,000 islands and islets.
The park's recognition underscores Sweden's commitment to conservation and responsible tourism. Susanne Andersson, CEO of Visit Sweden, emphasised the importance of protecting nature whilst allowing people to experience it responsibly. "Nämdöskärgården reflects Sweden's approach to travel, where conservation, local communities, and meaningful visitor experiences go hand in hand," she stated.
The park offers low-impact activities such as kayaking, boating, hiking, and wildlife watching, promoting a slower, nature-focused way to explore Sweden's archipelago. Ann-Sofi Andersson from the Stockholm County Administrative Board, which manages the park, highlighted the need for collaboration to preserve the area's natural and recreational value.
Marie Östblom, Manager at Stockholm Archipelago, expressed pride in the park's recognition, noting that it reflects the values of sustainability and conservation that define the region. The 2026 Travel & Leisure Global Vision Awards will be featured in the April 2026 issue of the magazine, celebrating individuals, companies, and destinations advancing sustainability in travel
