The World’s Most Remote Marathon is set to debut on 28 February 2027 in St Helena, offering runners a unique opportunity to compete in one of the planet's most isolated locations. Participants will traverse the island's dramatic volcanic landscapes and lush highlands, starting from Plantation House and finishing in Jamestown, the historic capital.
Runners can choose from four distances: a full marathon (42.2 km), half marathon (21.1 km), 10 km, or 5 km. The event is part of St Helena’s Adventure Week, which highlights the island’s natural beauty and offers activities such as the iconic Jacob’s Ladder climb, guided hikes, and open water swimming.
Jonathan Passaportis, Head of Tourism for St Helena Government, emphasised the marathon's unique appeal: “The World’s Most Remote Marathon is far more than a race, it is an invitation to run in one of the most extraordinary and unique destinations on the planet.”
Entry fees are $79 (£65) for the full marathon, $46 (£38) for the half marathon, $24 (£20) for the 10 km, and $15 (£12) for the 5 km. These fees include race participation, a finisher medal, and access to Adventure Week activities. Due to limited flight and accommodation availability, early booking is recommended.
St Helena is accessible via Airlink flights from South Africa, with additional flights from Cape Town scheduled around the event. Accommodation options range from boutique hotels to guesthouses and self-catering cottages, ensuring a comfortable stay for all visitors
