SITA unveils new airport management strategy

SITA has released a new white paper detailing how real-time operational alignment and predictive optimisation can significantly enhance airport capacity and performance. As airports face increasing passenger volumes and complex ecosystems, the Geneva-based company argues that fragmented decision-making is a major bottleneck.

The white paper highlights the importance of connecting data, teams, and partners across the airport ecosystem to unlock hidden capacity. By applying predictive analytics, airports can manage disruptions earlier, improve on-time performance, and make more efficient use of existing infrastructure. This approach is already being implemented in Abu Dhabi, where a shared operational data platform integrates various stakeholders, including airlines and air traffic control, to strengthen resilience and support sustainable growth.

SITA identifies three main challenges to achieving this coordination. Firstly, when departments focus solely on their own key performance indicators (KPIs), overall airport performance suffers. Secondly, visibility of operations does not equate to coordinated action. Many airports have dashboards and control rooms but lack a shared operational picture. Lastly, transformation must work with existing systems, as airports cannot replace day-to-day operational systems without causing disruption.

Nathalie Altwegg, SITA's SVP of Airports, stated, "This is about helping airports grow with control. Infrastructure investment remains essential, but infrastructure alone does not guarantee performance."

For airport leaders, the message is clear: improved coordination can protect capacity, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance the passenger experience. As global passenger numbers continue to rise, SITA's approach offers a pathway to more efficient and resilient airport operations
