Royal Jordanian maintains flights amid regional challenges

Royal Jordanian Airlines announced it is continuing flight operations to destinations with open and safe airspace, despite regional geopolitical challenges impacting the aviation sector. The airline is implementing precautionary measures to maintain operations whilst adhering to top safety standards, as some regional airspaces face closures or restrictions.

Vice Chairman and CEO Samer Majali highlighted the significant operational and financial challenges posed by the current geopolitical climate. He noted that the airline is incurring increased operational costs due to longer alternative flight routes needed to bypass closed airspaces. Additionally, rising global fuel prices and higher insurance and operating costs are further straining the company's financial performance.

Majali also pointed out a decline in travel demand, with booking rates and passenger numbers dropping on certain routes due to regional uncertainty. This has led to an increase in ticket refund and booking change requests, further affecting the airline's liquidity.

Despite these challenges, Royal Jordanian is taking strategic operational and financial measures to sustain its operations and minimise the impact of the current conditions. Majali reaffirmed the airline's commitment to serving as Jordan's national carrier, maintaining global connectivity whilst upholding high safety and service standards
