India is set to top Asia for spiritually driven travel in 2026, according to Agoda's latest Travel Outlook Report. The digital travel platform found that nearly one in five Indian travellers (19%) are planning trips motivated by faith and tradition, the highest percentage among Asian countries surveyed. Following India, Indonesia and Malaysia rank second and third, with Japan and Thailand completing the top five.

The report highlights a significant increase in travel interest during major spiritual events. In 2025, Prayagraj saw a 233% surge in accommodation searches on Agoda during the Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the world's largest religious gatherings. Similarly, during Holi, destinations like Pushkar, Vrindavan, and Mathura experienced notable rises in searches, indicating a strong link between festivals and travel.

Gaurav Malik, Country Director for the Indian Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, stated, “Spiritual travel has long been part of India’s travel culture, and the findings from Agoda’s Travel Outlook Report reflect how faith continues to influence travel decisions across the country.”

The report also suggests opportunities for spiritual destinations to enhance their digital presence, making trip planning more accessible for international visitors. Agoda's platform offers access to over 6 million holiday properties, 130,000 flight routes, and 300,000 travel activities, facilitating seamless bookings for travellers. As spiritual travel continues to grow, digital tools could play a crucial role in connecting travellers with culturally rich experiences
