Croatian waterfalls reach peak power in March

Croatia's waterfalls are at their most spectacular in March, according to Toni Hrelja, founder of Croatian villa rental company Villsy. As winter snow melts and seasonal rains arrive, the country's waterfalls transform into powerful torrents, offering a unique experience compared to the summer months. Hrelja highlights that this period provides a quieter, more dramatic visit to some of Croatia's most famous natural attractions.

Among the top recommendations are Veliki Slap in Plitvice Lakes National Park, Skradinski Buk and Roški Slap in Krka National Park, and the hidden gem Slap Sopot in Istria. Veliki Slap, Croatia's tallest waterfall, becomes a thundering spectacle in spring, with water levels across the park peaking. Visitors can enjoy the park's 16 terraced lakes and over 90 waterfalls without the summer crowds.

Krka National Park's Skradinski Buk and Roški Slap also benefit from the increased water flow, making March an ideal time for sightseeing and photography. A boat trip to the historic Visovac island is an added attraction. Meanwhile, Slap Sopot offers a more secluded experience, with its turquoise pool and fewer visitors.

For those travelling from London, flights to Zagreb start at approximately £40, with car hire recommended for reaching these stunning locations. Entrance fees vary, with Plitvice Lakes and Krka National Parks charging modest fees, whilst Slap Sopot remains free to visit
