American Airlines launches Edinburgh to JFK route

American Airlines has expanded its European network with the introduction of a new seasonal route connecting Edinburgh and New York's JFK Airport. This service, which commenced on 9 March 2026 and runs until 24 October 2026, marks the first international deployment of the airline's Airbus A321XLR aircraft. The new route follows the successful launch of the Edinburgh-Philadelphia service last year.

The Airbus A321XLR, featuring 20 Flagship Suite® seats, 12 Premium Economy seats, and 123 Main Cabin seats, promises an enhanced travel experience. Passengers can enjoy high-speed Wi-Fi, complimentary seatback entertainment with Bluetooth connectivity, and premium amenities such as lie-flat seating and wireless charging in the Flagship Suite®. José A. Freig, Vice President of International and Inflight Dining Operations at American Airlines, expressed excitement about offering Scottish travellers a new US destination and introducing the latest addition to their fleet.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport, welcomed the new service, highlighting the increased connectivity between two iconic cities and the confidence it reflects in Edinburgh's market. The airline will also resume its seasonal Edinburgh-Philadelphia route from 28 March 2026 to 5 January 2027.

American Airlines, the first US airline to introduce the A321XLR, plans to utilise this aircraft on additional transcontinental and international routes as more units are delivered. This expansion underscores the airline's commitment to enhancing its global reach and customer experience
