A&K Sanctuary has announced the opening of Kitirua Plains Lodge in Kenya's Amboseli region, set for 1 June 2026. This new addition to A&K Sanctuary's portfolio is designed in collaboration with Luxury Frontiers, aiming to integrate seamlessly with the surrounding landscape rather than dominate it. The lodge is situated on a 128-acre private concession bordering Amboseli National Park, offering stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Kitirua Plains Lodge marks a return to Amboseli for Abercrombie & Kent, where founder Geoffrey Kent first introduced luxury safaris in 1962. The lodge's architecture, inspired by traditional Maasai structures, features 13 standalone suites with views of the plains and Kilimanjaro. The design incorporates local materials, with 90% of the furniture crafted in Kenya, and employs sustainable practices such as solar power and water recycling.
The lodge's construction involved local workers, promoting skills transfer and economic benefits for the community. Traditional Maasai-inspired forms and local craftsmanship are evident throughout, ensuring the lodge coexists with the semi-nomadic Maasai people.
Guests can expect an immersive experience, with the lodge's design prioritising sustainability and local context. Kitirua Plains Lodge joins A&K Sanctuary's other Kenyan properties, Olonana Lodge and Tambarare Camp, completing a circuit that highlights Kenya's diverse ecosystems. Bookings are now open for A&K's Tailor Made and Small Group Journeys
