ABTA and the Future Travel Coalition are reaching out to their members to gather insights on how the ongoing geopolitical instability in the Middle East and the introduction of the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) are influencing summer 2026 bookings, consumer behaviour, and overall trading confidence. The survey, which was distributed via email last week, aims to collect valuable data to aid discussions with government bodies in the UK and Brussels.
The survey consists of five questions and is designed to be completed quickly, with a submission deadline of 15 May. The results will help ABTA and the Future Travel Coalition in their advocacy efforts, particularly in light of the UK government's recent consultation on airline slot handback provisions for the summer and winter 2026 seasons. This consultation seeks industry feedback on measures to mitigate potential fuel shortages and ensure stability in flight schedules.
Luke Petherbridge, ABTA's Director of Public Affairs, emphasised the importance of member feedback, stating, "ABTA members’ views on how the conflict, as well as the introduction of EES, is impacting on their businesses are essential to help us have a successful and productive dialogue with government and decision makers in Brussels, as well as destinations."
The government has proposed measures to provide airlines with the flexibility to secure flight schedules early, aiming to prevent last-minute disruptions and cancellations, thereby offering more certainty for passengers and businesses. ABTA encourages its members to participate in the survey to ensure their concerns and experiences are communicated effectively to policymakers
