Representative ImageABTA is inviting its travel agents to participate in a virtual workshop with the Aviation Accessibility Implementation Group, aimed at enhancing the flying experience for disabled passengers. Scheduled for 9 April from 2 to 4pm, the online event will allow agents to engage with the group's efforts, which are backed by the Department for Transport.
The workshop will focus on implementing 19 recommendations from the Government’s Aviation Accessibility Task and Finish Group's report, following a review led by Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson. These recommendations address training, information, and non-visible impairments.
Julia Ogiehor, Policy and Trade Relations Manager at ABTA, emphasised the importance of travel agents in supporting customers with accessibility needs. "We know how important travel agents are in supporting customers with accessibility and mobility issues to travel, helping them get the right support and feel confident to make the trip," she stated. "This is why we want agents involved in the conversation to help shape how the recommendations can be practically implemented."
ABTA's commitment to accessibility extends beyond the workshop, as it continues to work with members to develop guidance and support. Recently, ABTA published updated guidance for customers on accessible travel.
ABTA, the UK's largest travel trade association, represents over 3,500 travel brands with a combined annual turnover exceeding $50 billion (£41 billion). The association is dedicated to raising standards and promoting sustainable travel, providing travellers with reliable advice and support
